Festive Red Lips

I am a big fan of red lips, I think red lips make me look fairer and it is the best time for red lips right now. Red lips can easily look very festive and I am all about looking festive during winter.

I have always imagined myself with a very clean eye look, clean and neat eyeliner, tiny bit of mascara and then throwing on a red lips. Except that it only look good in my imagination, I tried putting it on it just does not work on me. My makeup will look extremely heavy even if I put on the tiniest bit of makeup, don't ask me why!

I discovered this Instagrammer @noelledowning and I am so inspired by her. I think she is so pretty, confident and she is everything I would want to look up too. She has a style that totally caught my eye, which is another reason why am I so into red this season. Check her out, she is simply gorgeous!

I do not have a large collection of red lip products but I do have a few that get a lot of wear this season.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw RM99
Jeffree Star Cosmetics Velour Liquid Lipstick in Unicorn Blood £16
Sephora Cream Lip Stain in 17 RM49
Maybelline Color Sensational Lipstick in Divine Wine £6.99
Bourjois Rouge Velvet Lipstick in 07 Joli Carmin'ois £8.99
Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstsick in 01 £5.49
Rimmel Exaggerate Lip Liner in 024 Red Diva £3.99

As much as I love red lips, putting on red lipstick is pretty hard, you definitely cannot do it in a rush, it would be a hot mess trust me. My tip of putting in a red lipstick is to first line your lips with a similar colour lip liner, or you can use a brush which works fine too.

Not only red lipsticks, all lipsticks which are of bolder colours, like purple or black or even dark blue colour would look so much better if you line your lips before applying. It would look a lot of neater, cleaner and precise and it saves you all the hassles from cleaning the outer part of your lips later on. It is so hard to clean up if you accidentally apply it wrongly, you need to use a concealer and what not to get rid of the red stain, so you would really wanna use a lip liner or a brush.

The lip liner that I am using is from Rimmel because it is cheap that's it! I am not very particular in choosing lip liner as long as it does the job. I know a lot of people will fill their lips with lip liner before applying lipsticks to make it lasts longer but I do not do it. I will just line my lips precisely to make lipstick application easier that is it.

Another tip for wearing red lipstick is to do a lipstick test before heading out. You simple just stuck one of your fingers into your mouth and the pull it out and you will find extra lipstick on your finger. Do it al few times until you do not get anymore lipstick on your finger. You do not want lipstick stain on your teeth when you smile right?

1. Sephora Cream Lip Stain

I am still all about matte shade this winter. The red lipstick that I have been wearing a lot these 2 months is the Sephora lip stain. I think it is such a gorgeous colour, it is not too bright and not too deep. It dries down immediately matte, it lasts super long and it does not transfer. Although it can be a little drying especially now that it is winter but I can totally overlook that.

This red shade is not too much. It draws attention but not too much attention if it makes sense because it is a slightly deeper shade as compared to the Kat Von D one. It makes a perfect red both day time and night time. I do not feel I have overdone my makeup even putting it on in during the day.

What I like about this red shade is it does not make my teeth look yellow. This is the red shade that has a tiny little bit of blue undertone but not so much as the Rimmel lipstick. I can smile and laugh comfortably in this red shade without worrying that people will judge how yellow my teeth is.

2. Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

Another red shade that I wear pretty frequently is the Kat Von D liquid lipstick. Like a said this is much attention drawing than the Sephora lip stain, it literally shout out loud to get attention haha. I have had this lipstick for quite some time and am still loving it.

It has a tiny little bit go orange undertone to it which kind of make my teeth look yellow but it is not too bad. It is beautiful matte, I love the liquid lipstick formula from Kat Von D, they are superb. They last very long, they do not transfer and they do not cry the crap out of my lips. One thing is do not quite like about Kat Von D liquid lipstick is it leaves a tacky feeling on my lips even the product has dried down completely. Well it does not kind of bother me but something to take note of.

I do not really put it on during the day because I think it is a bit too much for the day. It would draw too much attention during the day, I do not really want that to happen, however wearing it at night is absolutely beautiful! The colour is so gorgeous especially when I am wearing black dress at night, it pops out so beautifully and adds a little something on my face.

3. Jeffree Star Velour Liquid Lipstick

I just got my hands on this Jefferee Star liquid lipstick that I have been wanting to try since forever, but they are pretty expensive so I did not get it until they were on sale on Black Friday. Even though

I absolutely love this shade. It is a dark red colour with a tiny little brown undertone which makes it so unique that all the reds I have. However I am a bit disappointed with the formula, it is not as opaque as what I expected. A coat is definitely not enough, your natural lip colour will peek through it, however 2 coats are fine. In the packaging it says 'shake well before use', I did not shake it the first time so I thought that was why the colour was not opaque enough however it was still not very opaque the second time I have shaken it before application.

Other than having to apply 2 coats, the formula is beautiful. It is very matte to my liking, it is not particularly drying, I reckon it is super long-lasting because I have not worn it out before, and it does not really transfer. Maybe not day time but I would definitely wear it during night out, it is so pretty I swear.

4. Maybelline Color Sensational

I have had this lipstick for quite some time and am still loving it even though I do not really get a lot go use of it now. One thing I like about it is it is very versatile, I can use it to create different lips, I use it differently daytime and nighttime.

Because it is such a deep red colour, it is not very suitable for day time use. So what I did was I create gradient lips using it. I applied it to the centre of my lips, smudge it out a little and then reapply it to the centre to create a very soft yet sexy lips.

It is a little bit streaky but I can definitely make it work. Even though it is a matte shade but it is not as matte as a liquid lipstick. It does not mean that it is not drying though. It is still on the drying side just like all the liquid lipsticks. It is in a lipstick form does not mean that it is more hydrating.

5. Rimmel Kate Moss

I think I mentioned this lipstick in my previous post. Although I have not worn this out yet but I cannot wait to. What is stopping me from wearing this out is the fact that it is not matte. When it is not matte it means it is not transfer-proof. When it is not transfer-proof I am very worries you know.

It is winter, I always wear scarf when going out and I always wrap my scarf up till my face covering up my nose. I cannot do that if I am wearing this lipstick I would get it all over that place. However this is the red shade that I thought would not be too much even if wearing it during the day, it is the perfect kind of red that I could ever imagine during christmas time. How nice it would be if it is in matte formula.

I tried making it matte by bloating excessive oil and moisture using a thing piece of tissue. I lightly press the tissue on top of the lipstick and then pat loads of loose transparent powder over the tissue. By doing this I have kind of removed some of the lipsticks off my lips so what I do is to reapply another layer of the lipstick and repeat the blotting actions. i normally do twice and then I will have a rather matte finish, which is closer to what I like.

I said it earlier that it has a blue undertone so it actually makes my teeth look whiter than it is. Because it is not a matte lipstick, using a lip liner kind of essential before applying this lipstick. It glides of very easily so it is a bit hard to get a precise and neat finish.

6. Bourjois Rouge Velvet

I have mentioned about this lipstick previously. This is a red that has a lot of orange undertone, it is more like an orangey-red than true that. I thought this would look very nice during summer time with a sun dress and summer hat.

This lipstick dries down completely matte but not totally transfer proof. However it is a very light formula as in it is thin and you would not feel like you are wearing a lip product with this on. It is very comfortable to wear plus it is extremely opaque.

However because it is an orangey-red shade, my teeth look super super yellow in this lipstick, like really yellow. That is the only thing that could put me off from wearing it. Nonetheless it is still very pretty colour and it makes my skin appears fairer.

Just as a comparison among all my reds.

I have some other reds that I do not really go for. For example like NYX soft matte lip cream in Amsterdam. The shade itself does not look good on my skin tone and I have given up trying to make it work. Another red that I cannot wait to try is the lip paint from Fenty Beuty. It claims to suit every skintone which I personally think is very intriguing.

Do not afraid to put on red lips, I believe everyone will be able to pull it off, you just need to find the red that matches you. *wink*

Merry Christmas!!! Till next time xx
