Korean Makeup & Skincare Haul | March 2017

I've been wanting to try Korean skincare for the longest time ever but I was a bit reluctant to because I have heard not too good reviews from my friends who were using them.

Apparently they think that Korean skincare is too mild, as in your skin doesn't show any obvious improvements after using them but at the same time your skin doesn't worsen from any conditions. I have the same feeling this time actually.

I have normal skin, what I'm expecting my skincare to do is to either brighten, tighten or hydrate my skin. These Korean skincare doesn't really achieve the above which I'm quite disappointed to be honest #sorrynotsorry . I have read quite a number of reviews online saying that some Korean brand skincare did work on their acne prone skin, which I think it's very good for them even though I myself can't prove this.

I came across this brand CORSX from a few YouTubers. Jen from Meejmuse has shown the toner from this brand in her recent roomtour, so I thought I would give it a go considering they are quite cheap. CORSX products target on people who has sensitive and acne prone skin, so I guess that's why their products do not have any significant fragrance, I like it this way.

I kept thinking that the Innisfree no-sebum mineral powder was cheap and I have heard very good reviews about it. Some people even compared it to the Laura Mercier translucent powder and say it is a Korea dupe of the LM powder.

These 2 Tony Moly eyeliners, I have been wanting to try them for the longest time ever. Taiwanese Youtubers have given excellent reviews about this gel eyeliner. Until I browsed through Althea.kr, I could not get my hands on them because Hermo.my isn't carrying them. As soon as I found them, I immediately placed an order to see whether it is up to the 'Youtube standard'.

Innisfree No-Sebum Mineral Powder RM20

Well my first thought about this product is it isn't that cheap as what I thought earlier considering the amount of product it has. It's at the same price as my Rimmel matte powder but this no-sebum powder has way less product. Its powder is undeniable very finely milled and because it is so finely milled, the product will be everywhere when something slightly moves the air around. I would say the Laura Mercier powder is denser than this Innisfree one.

Will I say it is comparable to the Laura Mercier translucent powder? Not really.

I have had this no-sebum powder on that day together with the Tony Moly eyeliner below, just to kind of set the eyeliner in place, I don't know whether it is the eyeliner that smudged or the powder that didn't work, my makeup that day was horrible. I had eyeliner smudged all over my lower eye area.

So this powder doesn't give me a very good first impression to start with. I would definitely use these 2 products separately next time. However even if this no-sebum powder doesn't work at my underage areas, I think it would be nice all over the face to cancel out shiny areas.

This compact comes with a little puff, which I have taken it out from mine, but I think the puff is very useful if you're using this powder to touch up your makeup in the middle of day. The puff is so so soft and it doesn't feel like those cheap plastic puff that you would normally get at all. Highly recommend using the puff, it's just my preference to not put it in the compact.

UPDATE | June 2017:
I absolutely dislike this no-sebum powder, not only the powder itself has a quite disturbing herbal smell, it doesn't do its job in oil control at all. My face is till oily after like 2 hours and my eyeliner smudges EVERYWHERE omg! Bear in mind that I don't have oily skin. And it is not that cheap after all that I have made some comparisons. It is almost the same price as my Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Transparent Powder, but the Rimmel powder does a much better job than Innisfree's, not mentioning Rimmel has so much more product. Except that it is not easy to get Rimmel products here in Malaysia, or else I would advice people to stop buying the Innisfree no-sebum powder

 Tony Moly Backgel Eyeliner RM17

I have heard nothing but good reviews about this eyeliner. Just like what I have said earlier, the eyeliner smudged like nobody's business my goodness. The eyeliner appears to be extremely smooth and mousse-y. It takes quite some time to dry down completely so it's better for you to not blink too hard before it dries down.

Even though it has completely dried down it still transfers #damnit. I used the normal way in applying my eye makeup, which I used an eye primer, and then a thin layer of Innisfree no-sebum powder, eyeshadow and the lastly eyeliner. It still smudge throughout the day. I do not have oily eyelid to begin with but still...

02 brown is very nice brown colour actually, it is a cool tone brown which I love love love. It's quite opaque, 2 layers are sufficient to achieve a completely opaque finish. 04 khaki black has some tiny glitters in it. I don't quite like those glitters actually but it is a nice shade. It is black with a hint of green undertone, so at some angle it appears more like green than black. It would go well with black cool tone smoky eyes I reckon.

Another thing is the brush that comes with it is of very good quality I must say.

UPDATE | May 2017:
This eyeliner is too wet so it smudges very easily. Not only it takes such a long time to dry down and set, it still smudges after it has set which drives me crazy.  I would say this is the only eyeliner that smudges in the shortest time after I have put it on, I hate it! I applied eye primer before applying this eyeliner and set it with a translucent powder just like how I usually do with all my eyeliner, still it smudges. I cannot!

COSRX AHA/BHA Clarifying Treatment Toner RM55.90

My to-die-for Mario Badescu rosewater facial spray is running out and I am super sad about it. I have started searching for a nice and affordable face spray when it was half way through and came across this one. Although it is a toner, I still use it as a facial spray, my first skincare routine before my trustee Hada Labo lotion.

I do not agree with all the reviews on Hermo.my saying that it isn't sticky because it is sticky and 2 pumps are not sufficient for my face (or maybe it's me who like to spam spray), I will need at least 5 pumps for my face.

It has quite a fresh peppermint scent at the beginning but there is a sweet caramel vanilla kind of scent at the end, which makes the whole thing very weird. It is not unpleasant though because it doesn't smell like any artificial fragrance, but the scent will bother you somehow. Luckily the scent doesn't lingers around long, it will go away once the toner is dried out.

I don't quite like it actually, I even find it quite hard to finish the whole bottle.

UPDATE | June 2017:
I don't hate it but I don't love it either. It does nothing to my skin, it doesn't hydrate my skin, it doesn't minimise my pores, it doesn't prevent blackheads, it is only a scented water to me which its scent is not a very nice one either ugh.

COSRX Advanced Snail 96 Mucin Power Essence RM67.90

I have a thing over any skincare that contains snail essence, apparently it's quite good for repairing and rejuvenating your skin and it definitely helps in reducing scars. Most skincare products that infused snail essence are normally quite up there in price, so I think this product is quite affordable considering the amount of product it has - 100ml.

Like I said, there is no significant fragrance in the essence. It is not that type of liquidy essence, it's quite thick and sticky, it's not definitely not suitable to be used during day time. 2 pumps are more that enough for one time use. I have to really massage it in for my skin to absorb it and it takes quite some time like really.

My skin appeared to be super super soft the next day after I have used it, I love it. However after a few uses, it doesn't work as good as the very first time anymore, which is kind of disappointing. However I will still continue using it but would probably not repurchase it again.

UPDATE | June 2017:
Nope, not liking this. I am dreading to finish it, not even 1/3 through the bottle after nearly 3 months. I find it too thick even applying it at night. It is like a plastic seal on my skin and prevents my skin from breathing. Definitely not purchasing it again.

I hope I will have gathered enough stuffs to do a sephora haul.

Love,
Xiaohui
